Houses of painters and galleries
The
Škofja Loka area was the birthplace of modern Slovene painting. Impressions of
nature were transferred by bold brushstrokes to the canvases of the giants of
Slovene Impressionism. Škofja Loka was the centre of a group of progressive
artists, Slovenia’s equivalent of the Barbizon school, who drew on the currents
of European modernism and transformed Slovene art. Visit the houses where
famous Slovene painters were born, including the Šubic House in Poljane and the
Grohar House in Sorica. View the art collections at Loka Castle, the France
Mihelič Gallery and the Ivan Grohar Gallery.
