Ironworks – blacksmiths' path in Železniki

In Železniki the ironworks were the dominant economic industry throughout the 14th to the end of the 19th century. Blacksmiths working in the forges made nails which were known far and wide – up to 1,000 were produced per day. A blast furnace, a unique technical monument, stands in the centre of Zelezniki and serves as evidence of its rich ironworking tradition.

The Blacksmiths' Path leads past 23 points of interest. It begins at the stone bridge on Griva, leads past houses where well-known Železniki locals were born or lived, past churches and mining pits, and ends at the blast furnace.

Guided tours are particularly interesting, as each of the 23 sights of interest in Železniki hides its own special story.
